Mail runs on Dec 31 (as long as it's not a Sunday), not Jan 1.

The mail will run because New Years is not a federal holiday. If delivering in the same town, it may take 2-3 days to receive, process/sort, and deliver to the person. I always estimate a day for each step in the mailing process. Since your in Michigan you should be aware of weather conditions. For example, my parents live in New Jersey.... I was to receive a letter/Christmas money from them for my son.... Well because of the storms and snow warnings, all planes have been cancelled or held up in the North East, and Im from Florida! Add a few extra days for weather changes. If its like my situation.... What would take 5 days is taking 2weeks.

So far everyone who has answered this is correct. The mail does run on Dec. 31 unless it is a Sunday. The mail does not run on Jan. 1 due to the holiday.
