This fight just seems ridiculous to me in this day and age.
I had to show ID this weekend at Walmart before I could make a return --- life is getting warped....

You have to provide ID to open a checking account, cash a check, buy cigarettes, buy alcohol or get into R rated movies ..........but you don't have ID when they ask for it at a polling place??

Gee gads our local high school won't let children attend without them a photo ID - and that starts when they are 12-13yrs old .

What is the big deal ?
The states that are requiring IDs are even giving them for FREE so people can't claim financial hardship is keeping them from getting one.......

The main argument is that it discriminates against poor people who don't have a photo ID in many cases because they don't drive. Admittedly there are equivalent photo IDs called "State ID cards" available but they cost money as well. It's nice to see that states will issue them for free, but one will have to go through some sort of bureaucratic hoops to get one.
There also needs to be some sort of education with respect to the poll workers regarding IDs. Many years ago I was asked for an ID at my polling place. I showed the poll worker my retired military ID card, which contains my photo and signature. He wanted to know if I had a driver's license. I politely informed him that he was looking at the photo ID of a Federal officer. I also reminded him it was a Federal election and I expected him to present me with a ballot or I would call and have the Federal Marshals shut the polling place down and take him off to jail.
I've also encountered difficulty with one security officer at an airport who had never seen a U.S. passport before. If we do have a photo ID check at polling places, I'm all for it. But, the folks checking them have to be better trained.

One word answer. LIBERALS.

They want to insure that their support base, legal or not, will be able to vote for them. Since some who vote liberal are former convicted felons and or illegals, this could cause them to lose votes...

And then there are those who vote 2-3 times under different names.

Regardless of the reason, it is asinine that everything else in life requires ID, but the libs don't want a voter to be identified...

Interesting, but no surprise from the left.

I agree with you, but I think the argument is that Americans are given the right to vote by the constitution. Its a fundamental right of citizenship. The constitution doesn't say that Walmart has to give refunds, but it does say that you can vote. If you are poor, have no transportation, and limited means, should the government require that you get an ID?? I think it helps prevent fraud, but the other side would say the the constitution talks about voting, not preventing fraud.

The rational reason for not having to show ID to vote is that people who do not have identification for one reason or another tend to vote Democratic, and if ID is required, several percent of people who now vote will not be able to vote and elections will be skewed towards Republican candidates.

it's so politicians can't flood the system with votes from people who are dead or don't exist. it's not just a cheesy movie plot it actually happens!i hate to give politicians any credit but this one issue actually makes sense.
I do feel for you. when you consider how illegals are just given id's and allowed to stay non citizens it IS enough to make you scream.

I don't unless the Democrats and Republicans were both planning on having a lot of dead people vote for them.
Needing I.D. will kind of put the brakes on that. Maybe that is why they are upset.

There is no rational reason behind the protest - just another hype issue that's been blown out of proportion

Anonymity is a useful thing in elections. It prevents abuse.

Not requiring papers to live your life is a basic freedom you don't want to lose, even if you don't understand why.
