Eric, Mitch, Dave, etc. Something short and sweet and fairly commonplace, or you could check some baby books for boys' names and try to find something unusual. Don't make it too unusual, however - it'll seem contrived.

Why don't you develop your character first, then give him a name? What does he look like? What's his size? Occupation? Where does he live?

All these factors play a part. If you want a masculine hero, give him a "manly" name. Not to insult or offend anyone out there, but stay away from Donnie and Bobby and Shelby - names that could be either/or.

Good luck. It'll come to you.

Go for a red herring name- make the name sound really common but uncommon at the same time and have the character try to win everyones trust by proving that he/she is not evil.
Like, if the hero is male, then try Cleave McCray. You have an uncommon name and a common surname in one. Cleave sounds pretty bad because it sounds like a murder weapon (a meat cleaver)
Or, if the hero is female, try Krista Sharpe. 'Sharpe' is a common surname, but the spelling of the name 'Krista' and the actual name 'Krista' are not really common. Also, with the 'k' sound, it sounds like a villainous laugh, sort of.

Grant! I picture a strong, beefy, hot guy. While not sensitive per se, he's definitely got skills with ladies.

Look up some ancient Greek names, they have the best names that sound hero-ish and strong. <3 Use Greek!
