Yes. I find it utterly ironic that they claim the moral highground when in fact their biblical teachings are some of the most profoundly immoral writings on the planet. This goes for all the major religious texts as well. Many of these people are so superficial and literal that they can't see some of the most obvious contradictions in their own 'holy' scriptures. It's disgusting that they also claim the moral high ground when they have no problems bombing innocent people in other countries based on the lies of the most corrupt administration in this country's history. I find that the most moral and compassionate people I've ever met are actually secular humanists.

Hypocrisy has always got my dander up more than about any other social stance.

I think some folks are sincere but wrong in their beliefs, and others are just manipulative. The sincere but wrong ones are worth my time and respect. Generally, they are uniformed or undisciplined in their belief systems. The manipulative ones earn only my contempt. I can not believe that some of the very intelligent people I know can hold such contradictory beliefs any way than through simple dishonest manipulation of "beliefs."

I guess that means I'm sick of a large number of them.

I don't know any people like that, but it really wouldn't bother me much. I have moral values, which are different than the majority of people in this country, but I don't let their beliefs effect me. Why do you let it get to you. Is it because that you are really uncomfortable with defending abortion on demand?

I was, so I changed my opinion on the abortion issue. Abortion should be discouraged and allowed in only limited circumstances. Let the states decide whether or not to allow the killing of a fetus.

nope, I've never come across such narrow-minded person. The burden of proof is too high for both sides, so the "winner" in any theological debate is contingent upon the way the discussion is framed, whoever accepts that burden will invariably be unable to achieve it.
But hey, at least one in three of us on this planet are monotheists... that's a lot of people to be wrong, so I think that in itself gives their belief system credence. I don't believe, but am perfectly willing to be wrong.

They're a pack of ignorant, impotent jerks trying to pump themselves up by claiming they've got an inside line to the Almighty

Because they insist on sticking their noses in our business, the whole goddam country is on edge with their nonsense.

If there were a God, he would send fire and rain to clear the world of their vile presence -- the whole babbling crowd of inbred Boob Pharisees.

Sometimes I am and I can understand the sentiment but most of the time I realize why they act like they act and think what they think and that makes me feel sympathy.

Still I agree religious people should have more respect for people who think differently

I'm sick of people saying they believe in family values when I know that the values they speak of don't fit the values of many families I know, including my own.

This attitude of "If your values are not my values, then you simply have no values at all" is very disrespectful. I believe that to lack repsect for others reveals a deep seated lack of respect for self.
