Electors are those who are given Certificates of Ascertainment by their respective State Governors and then serve as that State's delegation in the Electoral College in the election of the President and Vice President of the United States. Most registered voters are eligible to serve, but those who hold a commission or elected office in the Federal government are barred from serving in that role.
