What initially kept the American’s from creating a strong central government?

The citizens were afraid that the government would turn out to be like that of the British governtment which they had just broke free from.

Basically, the whole idea of America, originally, was to escape the monarchy in England and it's overarching tyranny. A strong central government was something people were scared of becasue they believed that it was just a step back towards and monarchial system of government.

they had just gained independence from britain and the last thing they wanted was a king because they didnt like the authority the british king had over them they thought that if they haad a king the same thing will happen to the revolution would repeat
