Yes Y!A is a bit inconsistent in their application of the rules (and I've been frustrated by this too) but these days I'm starting to side with Y!A because there are SO many people who use the site just for socializing with absolutely no intention of asking or answering questions.

Its like we're all in a giant classroom and some people are trying to study and others are distracting them with idle chatter. The authority figure or 'teacher' (Y!A) has clearly stated that chatting is not allowed 'in class' but that doesn't stop people from getting angry and indignant when they are chastised for chatting. Why is this?

Because that is simply what happens when you allow an open forum. Take for instance the classroom example you set. over here, we have public schools. In public schools anyone and everyone is allowed in. That is why public schools are so miserable. Now in Asia, you have to take rigorous exams to continue on. There is no time for play, and all of the potential idiots fall by the wayside. I bet you if there was some sort of essay or IQ test required to get in, we would weed out the majority of the trolls on this site.

I wish we only had the RULES OF Y/A to worry about in our lives. After being reported for some miniscule violation of some obscure Y/A COMMUNITY RULES AND REGULATIONS WRITTEN IN GRANITE, I just asked Y/A minions if THEY were as perfect as they expected US to be.
You're right, they did not answer. Guess I had them by the short hairs.

By the way, no one MAKES you read the 'chatter', and what YOU are doing is a VIOLATION.....RANTING. But I'm not petty enough to report it. You can actually be reported for going beyone a simple answer. Don't make extra comments, give personal examples (got reported for that for 'chatting'), etc.
