when i press the other buttons the lights flash but i cant seem to get it to work...... is my wii knackered?? please help....

The batteries could have died so try changing the batteries. :)

Okay. It should be really easy to do it. Your Wiimote hasn't been in use for so long, it no longer recognizes the wireless signals come from your Wii. Real easy to fix:
1) Open the back of your Wiimote. Make sure the batteries are fresh. Near the battery slots there should be a RED button. Press it and the lights should start flashing.
2) Turn on your Wii, and open the little slot right under the CD slot (where you put your SD Card, if you have one.) There should be another RED button that says SYNC on it. While your Wiimote lights are flashing (this is important!), press and HOLD the SYNC button on your Wii. Soon after, the lights should stop blinking and it should be back to normal!
3) Have Fun!

I had that problem today
Turn your wii on
and open the battery pack on the remote and press the red button and go to the wii console and press the one on the front where the memory stick goes

you may have to re-calibrate the remotes. I believe that their are red buttons by the batteries that need to be pushed simultaneously with other similar buttons on the Wii.
