In the 80's Mugabe was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Matabele, if something had been done then Zimbabwe might not be in the situation it is now. And why does it seem that all the African Leaders are scared of him and won't help the poor people suffering there?

What would have been done, and by whom? Very often, when one terrible form of government is abolished, the replacement is sometimes just as bad, or worse... He was elected, although the legitimacy of that process was dubious. Just like some other African nations.. note what's going on in Kenya right now.

When there's a vacuum or void of power, dictators step in and assume it.

I feel very sorry for the good people of Zimbabwe under that dictator, they are definitely in my thoughts and prayers. If Zimbabwe in some way threatened oil supplies (for instance) or posed a terrorist threat of some kind, military forces would be sent there and Mugabe would be taken out!

Unfortunately, my country would only send military forces to help countries that have lots of resources such as the Falkland Islands, Kuwait, Saudi, Bahrain, Iraq and Afghan. This is very wrong in terms of human suffering - I know and I'm very sorry about this. But it does seem to answer the question why we haven't acted.

Good educated questions that I would also like the answer to, very good friends were forced to leave Zimbabwe because of that maniac, Mugabe. It's surely the responsibility of the African countries to bring this Despot down.

no one gave a dam about Africa in the 80s. It would have seemed colonialist and whats the return for the country which intervened - no oil or anything valuable. Governments knew without Mugabe the country would descend into civil war and they would get drawn into a long, bloody war. perhaps politicians had more foresight then - it would have been the Iraq of the 1980s.
This is by no means a defence of Mugabe's brutal regime - the man should be ousted immediately but again this won't happen - the UK and US are too involved in Afghanistan and Iraq and no other country will get involved - unless he assassinated he will hold on to power for some considerable time to come unfortunately.

Why doesn't someone assassinate him? If it was a western country he would be dead by now. The man is a complete despot and dictator whatever the poll's say. He has ruined the country and will die and leave it to the poor people to clean up after.

The main reason Africans do nothing is probably fear of retaliation against their families and countries..
