my dogs are on frontline, but that hasn't helped this year. we have had a very warm winter so far, and the flea problem has spread throughout the house.

contact a reliable exterminator. have them treat the house, the doghouse, and the yard. fleas are very hard to get rid of seeing as how they can hide anywhere. also go to the vet and get a different medication for the dogs. frontline has never worked for me either. i have my dog on advantix and it works better than frontline. if the fleas are everywhere they may have to bomb the house so that every room is treated and the furniture as well.

I am DEAD serious about what I'm going to tell you so don't feel that I'm being sarcastic, mean or cruel. O.K. Been there, done that.

First off. You can not get rid of fleas until you get rid of the eggs. Carpets are very good breeding grounds for fleas which obviously you are the current example.

You will have to invest about $2000. Yes two thousand dollars because your house will have to be 100% fumigated. I mean huge plastic "condom looking" coverage over your home and big expensive fumigators activated for a 12 hours period. Meanwhile go say Hello to Mama because you're not sleeping in YOUR home for about a week.

The carpets have to be removed (before fumigation) and destroyed. Maybe your couch, mattress and such might be saved. The final straw. Give your dogs away. The problem will return unless you spend a lot of money with baths at the Vet to keep your pets clear of flea and flea eggs.

Good luck and may God Bless you on this trial. It will try your nerves, resolve and finances.

I now have fish. If I have to scrub hard one more time to remove the lime build up, they're going into the river! LOL

this is going to sound bizarre but it does work. i moved into a house infested with fleas (they would bite me in the basement which was a concrete floor)
it is going to be a process to get rid of them but stay with me. the first thing you want to do is lime your yard. even if you finally get rid of all of the fleas everytime the dogs go outside they will bring them back in. i don't know how this works but it does. yes they might track it in the house but it will also kill the fleas in the carpet.
someone else told you to go to the hardware store and get bombs (you can also purchase these at the grocery store most of the time) you need to bomb the house and have the dogs flea dipped at the same time. in 7 days repeat the bombs. then repeat in 14 days (21 days from the original bomb). then repeat in 21 days (28 days from the original. then repeat again in 21 days. the life cycle of a flea is aprox 21 days. by using this schedule you will eliminate any new fleas that hatch. in the mean time vacuum often. once i got rid of all the fleas i made sure i limed the yard every spring and fall and the fleas didn't return.

good luck.

If Frontline is one of the chemical products that you put between the animal's shoulderblades, keep using it. I've used it on everyhting from cats to greyhounds, and it is very effective. Simultateously you should either fog the house or use an exterminator. Eliminate the existing fleas and insure that they are not replaced with a new crop.

Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Recent studies show using the vacuum is the most effective treatment for fleas, either sucking them up or damaging them so they die. But I have better luck with also, after vacuuming well, doing a good carpet shampooing. Have my own Bissell steam cleaner, and I get the carpets fairly wet before pulling the soap/water back out. I think this gets the eggs that may be present, as well as any fleas that have burrowed down in the carpet. Plus if they jump they land on more soapy wet carpet and soapy water does kill them effectively.

A safe and cheap method of getting rid of fleas is to use a mixture of boric acid and salt. The powder should be sprayed on carpets, bedding and areas frequented by pets.

Go to your local hardware store and buy a "bomb" (as many as you need to treat the square footage of the dwelling).
Follow the directions to a T.
If that doesn't cure the problem call an exterminator.

have you tryed,,sonar,,,ask your local exterminator about it and where it can be purchased,,or have them do it,,,,it's that or bombing your premises with chemicals that could ultimately harm you and/or your pet.
Why don't you decontaminate your dog,,send him to your sisters for awhile,,until you have the flea problem in check at your home. (If you don't have a willing sister,,,,how bout a bro,,or friend,,,you get my drift) :)
Best of luck to you!
