I don't know. I've been a dog maniac since before I can remember. as for how to get over the fear, the best thing would be to find someone you know who has a superbly trained dog that will sit quietly. you can just practise being near it. if you work up the nerve, you can try offering it a treat. good experiences are the best. oh, a word of caution. NEVER make sudden or fast hand motions, and by all means don't scream or react like that . dogs can sense fear. and when you do stuff like that, there could be unfortunate consequenses.
there's a 2 year old in my hall. I've been working with him for more than a year on how to be around my dogs. I have 3 toy poodles. he's crazy about them. and I always have one sit still and he pets him. it's good to teach kids from an early age how to do this. I run into far too many who are freaked out.

Before my step-daughter came to live with us we had to deal with her fear of dogs. She was practically phobic about dogs so I "cured" her this way. When she was there, she trusted me when I told her I would keep the dog on the leash and away from her. Our dog was a pretty calm dog and that helped a lot. Then I put the dog in the next room with a child gate in the door. She would reach across and pet the dog as she felt comfortable. After a few weeks (I don't remember how long...maybe 4 weeks), she felt comfortable with the dog and they were regular friends. She still is afraid of strange dogs, especially if they are hyper. But that is OK because no one should approach a strange dog anyway. (Get to know them with the owner's permission)

People are unpredictable, too. Are you petrified of people?
Just learn how to act around dogs, and ask a friend with a friendly dog to let you play with him for awhile. Get used to them.

I would say try and get over your fear. I was scared of most animals and I now have a pet house rabbit and were getting a small dog (when we can decide what type) im still very scared of cats and I have been known to run away screaming when i see one in the street - so i know what its like :)

You need to face your fear, go the pound or a pet store and play with a few dogs, well start with puppies first.
maybe you should think about getting a Puppy for yourself. Just be sure not to ever pet a dog without the owner there and there OK. They are really good animals and very loyal.

I wouldn't say I'm petrified but I'm very wary. I have been bitten a few times & the tetanus jab was more painful than the bite to be honest. I hate when they come behind me barking because I feel like they are going to bite the back of my legs.
The only way to get rid of your fear is to face it. Spend more time around dogs & you will eventually get used to them.

I worry a little if its a situation where theres a couple of strays loose but usually I get along famously with dogs.
you need to confront the fear which will probably involve being around a dog and building a relationship with it.

I could never be without a dog, they are not scary, but like most things, you can come across a dodgy one now and again. See if you can visit the local dog rescue home and get to know dogs more.

I like all animals mostly but I do not like big scary looking dogs, that movie Coojo scared the hell out of me! I like cats a bit better but that is just because I used to have a pet cat. I like puppies when they are not too big. Dogs bite yanno?
Just get a nice lil puppy to play with or any of your friends who have dogs ask them if you can play with their dogs of course your friend should try to help you and supervise you for safety reasons. Volunteer walking dogs lol, idk! Well good luck!
