I have given birth 4 times. I only lost my mucous plug ahead of time with my second child. It started to come out a bit at a time beginning about 24 hours before I delivered my son. I never experienced any larger globs. With the other 3, I had no noticeable evidence of losing the mucous plug. Every woman and every pregnancy is different. It is possible you will lose your mucous plug in tiny pieces or in large globs. It is also possible it will begin to happen several weeks before you deliver or you may not notice it before delivery.
