if strong acid can dislove and burn material - even flesh - then what does strong alkaline do

It also "burns" by hydrolyzing (decomposing) the protein and fat molecules of skin and tissue. Strong alkali can dissolve certain metals, like Al, producing NaAl(OH)4 and H2(g).
