I'm a fifth-year special education teacher in Indiana and make around $31,000/yr before taxes. Teaching isn't about the salary - everybody knows we don't make a lot of money, but we make a huge difference in lots of lives. We teach because we love what we do and it's a passion, not because we get great salaries, benefits, or public accolades. In the end, our "pay" is much better and means more than that of any millionaire!

I am in my second year teaching at the middle school level on Long Island, and I am making 47,000 before taxes. I think I make about 38,000 after taxes. This is with my B.A. only. Pay scales will increase the longer you have been teaching, and the more credits you have taken in grad and post grad. You have to keep in mind the cost of living. My fiance and I are paying 1750 for a 2 bedroom apartment. That would be over half my salary if I were living alone. I am lucky though, the district I work in is One of the best paying districts.

I teach at a Virginia high school and make around $35,000. That seems small, but the price of living is pretty cheat around here.
I teach Chemistry and Physics.
