I've been watching CNN and I realized that about 90% of the news are about Islam, 7% about plane crash and 3% about sports.

It may seem normal, but in my country 40% of the news are about sports, 50% about politics and the other 10% about crime and tragedies.

I would say that almost everything is about my country...

Your numbers are so far askew it's not even funny.

Unless I hadn't realized it but that Anna Nicole Smith, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are actually Islamic. Then the percentage is greater than I realized.

That's because most of the news is coming from that part of the world. When I was a child, the Vietnam War was going on so most of the news was about that. Now that the war has been over for years, people barely hear about that country anymore.

Another thing I would like to mention is that back then, the Soviet Union and the spread of communism was what got a lot of people scared. They didn't even know about the Middle East or Islam. Now, people are scared of Islam and Middle Eastern terrorists and many of them sound very similar to those who were afraid of communism and its godlessness some 40 to 50 years ago.

I've worked as a journalist / writer for years and I think your numbers are way off.

News outlets by their very nature are reactive -- meaning they report on the most dynamic, relevant and interesting stories of the hour. Thus, this past week the tiger attack in San Francisco got a good deal of coverage and the rescue of the girl from the airplane crash in Central America did as well. Both extensively reported stories that had nothing to do with Islam whatsoever.

Obviously the war in Iraq and our military operations in Afghanistan merit serious attention. The reality is that Islam plays a significant role in both those actions. It would be poor reporting not to consider the influence Islam has on those regions.

I think your assessment of U.S. news coverage is heavy handed and (to be honest) I think bias. If you'd like to understand how U.S. media works please take a look at the link below. It has some great resources.

A few possible reasons:

1. Negative stories attract more readers than positive stories. People are curious about tragedy, death and destruction more than they are about stories with happy endings.

2. Since 9-11, there has been more interest in the news of Islamic countries.

3. Also, it is a fact that they are liberal so they like to show stories that will influence the American people to be dissatisfied with the current president.
