i dont get why the people in the market let the mist get that military guy? what did he do? they acted like it was his fault or something.

Considering how wretched "Maximum overdrive" was, that is saying a lot

"The Arrowhead Project",is conducted at a nearby top-secret military facility, is what causes the mist, so the people are probably angry at the military, and decided even he should be punished (though its not really his fault)
