Hi. Might be a power supply problem. You can manually start the PSU by doing this. http://wiki.extremeoverclocking.com/wiki/Power_Supply

Thats a very dangerous thing to do: inserting the cpu while its on. You run the chance of shorting out your cpu, overheating it, burning something out. Maybe it shuts down because when you insert the cpu, you need the heatsink and fan on top of it to keep it cool. I had that problem with my computer initially when i built it because it turns out my heatsink wasn't properly set on the cpu. Also, check the plugs into the motherboard, it could be that a plug so happens to fit and turn on the motherboard, but when the cpu is plugged in, it will short the connection out because the plug wasn't supposed to go there in the first place.

Ah, if you inserted the CPU chip while the system is running you have probably (most likely) destroyed it. NEVER insert or remove parts of any kind from inside the computer cabinet while power is still applied. This means shutting the system down and removing the power cord. You might have also fried the motherboard or other support components as well.

Odd that the clicking sound would only come out when the cpu is in. Make sure the cpu is firmly in, and the fan isn't somehow catching on it. As was suggested by another, you might check the power supply. PSU's slowly lose capacitance over time, so that their true power output is lower than listed. In certain extreme cases, this may cause "brownouts" on your system, depending on how much power your system uses. Try another power supply. You can go buy one from best buy or circuit city, and if it doesn't fix the problem take it back for a refund. Just don't tell him you're using it to test with ;) Worked for me.

i think i might know what the problem is. I had the same problem when I got a new motherboard and putting in the cpu. It might be your computer is running too hot. Do you have enough fans running and are they all working.

YOU INSERTED THE CPU WHILE IT WAS RUNNING??!?!?!?
No wonder it doesn't want to work now.
Nice way to toast the CPU and/or motherboard.
If its not the CPU..then it must be............
Unless of course, you toasted the other CPU also by plugging it in when it was powered on.

there are no replacable motherboard parts. if its out, replace it. be careful swapping cpu's. you could burn them out on the bad board.
