Help! My fiance & I have finally decided to go to Venice for a short Honeymoon in August. We have to fly into Treviso airport though. Does anyone know how the heck we get into the main part of Venice from there near San Marco Square where our Hotel is? Seems very complicated....

There are bus boats that are probably the easiest ( and cheapest way) of getting around Venice....having said this Venice is not a huge city anyway and you could walk it, but the boat is good...I remember the number 1 is the slowest but stops at all the stops. You can buy a consession card ( trying to remember where I bought it....I know I had a lonely planet guide or something that told me)....just to point out you don;t get asked to show you card to get on UNLESS they are doing a check on tickets...i know some people who just hopped on the boats without tickets and did not get caught, I did get asked at one stop, but I had the right ticket.

I would get a map....I found a laminated one I found very useful ( I know it rains there a lot!).....there are lots of little side streets and whatnots you could get lost, but having a map helps......If you are not far from San Marcos Square you should be fine...its really central to the main "excietment" of Venice....just get the boat to San Marcos and then walk the rest of the way.........Venice is much more simple when you arrive there!!!

Take a cab from the airport to venice, and then there are buses that take you to the centre of Venice and from there you have to use the boat buses.
I've been to Venice a few years ago and we got lost more than once hehe, thank god we had a gps. So make sure you'll have a detailed map.
Once you're there you can ask people too. You might consider learning a few words in Italian if you do not know the language.
Anyways i hope you have fun and have a safe trip :]

It's not at all complicated. When you arrive, go to the information desk and ask them to tell you which bus will bring you to the main bus station in Venice. Once you are there, go to the vaporetto stop at the station and ask them to put you on a vaporetto going to San Marco square - most of them stop there anyway, so that won't be a problem. Just relax and enjoy the amazing first trip down the Grand Canal!

When my wife and I went to Venice last year I used this great company called Holiday Taxis http://www.holidaytaxis.com They had a number of options from getting from the airport to the city either by shared buses or private taxi.

Once you get to the island they even helped me out with a water taxi - you have to call them for this as these cant be booked online but they have a great call centre and sorted me out with a great trip.

Highly recommended, its worth the money

Have a nice trip
