Ferrets are illegal in CA as stated, but there are ferret rescues and places to obtain them. There are thousands of pet ferrets in the state of CA. I don't know where you could go to find one for adoption, though. There is an extensive underground network of people, agencies and vets that still care for these outlaws and help find them homes. To name any out-right could jeopardize seizure of ferrets they have in their care. Asking in any group outright could cause concern and suspicion. You have every chance of finding a ferret to keep in CA, but it won't be easy...and I do wish you luck. I know they're out there, just keep asking. Look in the Yahoo ferret groups and google ferret rescues and see if someone may open up to you.

Ferrets are illegal in California although a lot of people have them. If someone turns you in for having a ferret you are subject to seizure of your animal and fines. Your animal may be removed and/or destroyed.
So unless you know someone personally who has them, it would be kind of hard to get anyone to respond publicly and admit that they are keeping ferrets.
Try contacting either of these two organizations:
CA SunFerret Shelter and Rescue
P.O. Box 443, Ferndale CA 95536-0443
E-mail: sunferret@aol.com
Ferret's Anonymous
P.O. Box 6497, Torrance, CA 90504
E-mail: FAMail@ferretsanonymous.com/
Web site address: http://www.ferretsanonymous.com.
Good luck. Let's hope they change the laws sometime, as they are totally unfounded and generally stupid.

You can try your local animal shelter, rescue center OR go to http://www.petfinder.com and look for a ferret that is in your area. Good luck with your search!

As already stated, ferrets are illegal in CA. However, it's not impossible to keep ferrets if you live there. I doubt there's any ferret shelters in CA, so your best bet would be to check online for ferret shelters in the next state closest to you. You can also try http://www.petfinder.com maybe you'll be able to find one available in CA. Also, make sure you check out http://www.ferretsanonymous.com I have a friend with two ferrets that moved out to CA three years ago and she said that site is an excellent resource. It tells you how to get your ferret into CA unnoticed - http://www.ferretsanonymous.com/checkpoints/checkpoints.html and lists vets in CA that see and treat ferrets (and that won't report you for having one) - http://www.ferretsanonymous.com/vets.html It also tells you your rights - http://www.ferretsanonymous.com/rights.html It's risky to keep ferrets in CA, but it can be done if you're careful. Good luck!

I don't recommend adopting a ferret in California. They are illegal, and this means that the ferret could be seized and even destroyed if you are caught. It also means that all care must be done 'under the table', which could jeopardize your pet's health.

Ferrets are illegal in California. If you were known to have one then they'd be confiscated and euthenized. State law forbids ownership of this species.
