I already plan to do just that. To avoid the death tax that allows the govt to claim way over half of what you have saved in a lifetime. (Provided I make it to the end of life w any money, that is.) Right now my plan includes a home for wayward exotic dancers, an all night steak house/drive in,(that shows nothing but bad zombie movies), a race car driving school for the blind, and a women's studies program at the University of Saudi Arabia. Hey, it's no sillier than what the govt would've done w my money. At least this way I get a chuckle before I die.

I would make sure I would spend as much as I could first then give the rest to family/friends, I certainly would not hand my hard earned cash to the government, after all the tax and NI I have paid over the years!

No. But, it's a good idea to have legal will or living trust though.

Each state has laws as to how "intestate" people's asserts are disposed of. Your heirs can file an action to have your money distributed among your family according to the laws of your state.

If you die without a will and have no traceable relatives your money will be given to HMG but I think it can be claimed back if relatives appear. So make a will even if you are going to leave it to the cats home

Of course i'd spend every last penny. i wouldn't dare want anyone else taking the money i so painfully worked for, unless for family members or charity.

Isn't that called income tax?
Anyway, I would not give in to statute, far better to be a rebel I think!

I would certainly take all precautions to ensure that the government failed to grab my estate.
