how many of you have rottweilers?
i do, i have a very big (one of the largest ive seen!) rottweilers, and i always have had rottweilers.. and mine is the softest, daftest, nicest dog ever!
i honestly do believe it is how you bring up a dog to how it is behaved, though i wouldnt leave him with a child!..
if you have been put off of rottweilers by the stories in the papers and in the news recently, then please dont, most are like mine!
As gentle as a little dog only in a bigger body!
i hope to god they dont put them on the banned list or dangerous dog list, it would break my heart to see people hate my dog!
My heart goes out to the people who have lost someone special through an attack of any kind of dog!
and r.i.p to little archie!!
PS.. i arent trying to start an argument or cause upset with this comment its just a general opinion.. so please dont leave any mean messages!
thanks.x

i've got one that weighs 125 lbs, has a head the size of a small basketball, has very long incisors (about 2"), very strong well built, big barrel of a chest. but is the BIGGEST baby i've ever had as a dog. i've had poodles that were more aggressive than this idiot. he's a huge lap dog. and yes, he puts that melon of a head in your lap and looks up with those big brown eyes saying " hey pet me". his favorite thing to do is to play football with my boys. yes thats right football. when the boys go outside with him, they throw the ball in the air and max, the dog, catches it and runs around in circles. when max thinks they are getting tired of chasing him, he'll drop the football and dare anyone to come near him. if they do, he picks it up and starts running. its hilarious. not to mention the tongue baths he gives everybody with that tongue gene simmons would be jealous of. i take him to the park and because he is so big, people get scared of him but all he does is sit down and raise a paw to shake hands. he is the most gentilist dog i've ever owned.
a dog is only as refined as his master is. if the master is harsh or cruel, the animal will be to. you are correct in that statement. i have seen dogs that were abused and they would lash out at anything and everything. the only time my dog lashes out at is when his supper dish is empty. he picks it up and drops it at my feet. and sits there staring at me like "okay i'm hungry, do you mind filling this thing or what?" i love my dog.

i have got 2 rottweilers, 1 is nearly 4 years and the other 11 weeks old, i also have two children aged 12 and 9 and the kids love the dogs and vice versa. we have always got the children's friends round playing in the garden and the dogs are great with all the children but i would never leave my dogs alone with my children's friends when they are round and its not because i think my dogs will bite the kids but because i don't think any dog should be allowed to be alone with children especially small kids.
my oldest dog has been brought up as a family pet, she is part of our family and is just a big softer and that is exactly how my pup is going to be brought up,
yes there are horrible rottis out there but there is also other dogs that are horrible aswel, if anyone brings their dogs up nasty they will be nasty.

I agree with you 100% but you cannot stop the media from saying things that they are dangerous dogs and the story is going to put people of owning this breed of dog.
The owners are also 100% to blame, i mean what the hell is a rottwiller doing with a baby unsupervised, surley the owner would of had some common sense not to leave a big dog like that not on a lead with a baby or young child becuase sometimes dogs can turn and theres no explinantion of why they did... but yes no breed of dog should be portrayed as a killer.
p.s I love big dogs :-)

my son has one and she is a softy.
I would never leave any dog alone with a child. This latest child to be killed was being carried out into the garden by a 7 year old child. The dog was known to be savage and was usually chained up to a fence.

i have a rottie, and as you say they are one of the biggest softest things you have ever meet, i also have three children, so obviously my house is always full of children and every one of them think he is adorable, i seriously think it is down to the owner, not the dog. and as for putting them on the dangerous dog list, it's ridiculous, they should take a good look at these little ankle biters first

I dont have a rottweiler and I dont like dogs especially large ones, but I agree with what you say. It is down to how the dog is treated and brought up. Too many people use them as some sort of 'I'm hard' badge rather than treating them like pets.

Never blame the dog or breed!! just the owners who train them.
Lucky and Stella both are total softy's and have both been trained to be with the kids, the kids even can take the food away and bones away while they are feedig

I used to have a rottie, but she died of cancer last year. :( She was a big teddy bear she used to like to sit on me especially when she was wet and I was drying her with a towel so I always ended up soaking wet as well, but i didn't mind she also used to ankle tap when she was younger to try and stop you walking away I remember once I was walking and the next second I was on the ground with her head looking down at me with a huge goofy grin.

Very well put. I am sadly old enough to know owners of the American pit bull. and their dogs were as soft as brushes too. what I have found walking my dogs is that the smaller the dog the bigger the aggression. I have never met a person that a dog didn't like .......... like able. if you have...... show me.
