ok this guy, that is in some of my classes walks up to me and says hey i like the color of your backpack, i really like the color on it. Does that mean he likes me?

It could mean he likes you , or it could mean he just likes your book bag... if you like him try talking back to him and see how he reacts

No, I think it means he likes the color of your backpack! Why would you think he likes you? Are you trying to make friends? If so just start being more outgoing, you will make friends!

Hi Moses from what you have mentioned it is clear that your classmate has the same choice of as you have but it will not make sure that he likes you.
Seeing is just using your sense organ ( Visual) but to like each other it should be from your heart. Nothing is said about this. what about you?
Just talk to him understand him and give time for him to understand you and then decide the relationship you have.

this is a normal opening that someone would use to get talking to you about other things. it means he may like you. or he just wants to get to know you.Where this leads is not all that clear.
