Hi. Unfortunately the magnetic disk needs to be spinning. A good (pricey) lab may pull the actual disk and put it in another drive.

The computer may be dead but the data is still likely to be salvagable. Hard drives are called 'hard' because they retain the data even without power. There are numerous companies that offer data rescue services, but they don't come cheap! Good luck!

If the drive still spins up, you may be able to get information off of it by putting it in another pc as a secondary (slave) drive. It would appear as a D: or E: or last drive letter drive. You can then access the info you need. You won't be able to copy applications, but you can get items such as Word documents or Excel spreadsheets.

I have not tried it but i know i lot of people say that if you put the hard drive in the freezer for about 30 min and then hook it up if will sometimes work long enough for you to make a back up of your files.

Yes, there are retrieval services online where you send your drive to a lab. These services are mostly used by large corporations and charge per the gigabyte I think. Its extremely expensive tho.
