If you paid an advance fee for a loan, some a$$hole in Lagos, Nigeria or Riga, Latvia is living it up at your expense. Once the money is collected on the other end, it's impossible to trace it or to recover it.

If you paid via Western Union or one of the other wire services they can let you know where the money was collected. My money says somewhere in Africa or Eastern Europe where corruption is rampant and banking laws are minimal at best and non-existant or ignored at worst.

Consider it a life lesson and just be sure that you don't repeat it. And be thankful that you are not out several thousand more. A poster to this forum last week was ripped off for over $6,000 for a supposed $9,000 loan.

Advance fee loans are 100% illegal in the US, Canada and most of Europe and the modern industrialized world.

Use this as a lesson learned. You won't get your money back.
