That is quite true. I can't actually recall any stories, but i do remember when he decided to go to Newcastle instead of United. He didn't play for the money, he had a big heart for football and that is why he let his heart decide.

To the answer above, if Fergie is a bully then how did he nurter some of the best young players of the 90s? Yes, he has had fallings out with players, but many other managers have. To this day he still is a great manager to keep rising starlets in sync and that is why they choose him, because they know this.

Blackburn were going to be the Chelsea of their day. Jack Walker had money to buy the title and Shearer thought they were the club to join to win trophies at that time.
As an answer to the Cantona question, the French chap was still at Leeds when Shearer signed for Blackburn. He may have forged a great partnership but it was not on the menu at that time.

In 1992, Blackburn had a vast transfer budget thanks to investment from Jack Walker; investment which went on to deliver Blackburn and Shearer the Premiership title. They were also managed by Kenny Dalglish, who at the time was generally more highly rated than Alex Ferguson, whose reign at Manchester United had thus far only returned an FA Cup and Cup Winners' Cup title.

Whilst it is undisputed that Shearer was in contract discussions with Manchester United, it is unclear why these talks were unsuccessful. A Manchester newspaper (linked below) claims that money was the main issue, although it's not exactly a neutral source.

Blackburn because Shearer was the kind of person for fame. He just wanted to play football and shine in the course of it

Blackburn were a rising team and who can resist a great offer? I think even Fergie would have moved to Blackburn had Jack Walker tried harder.

Do you know that they had a chance to sign Zidane too?

gotta agree with robert c here-fergie is a control freak (who else would tell their players not to have parties in their own homes at christmas-come on ffs!!) and shearer would have clashed with him-how keane lasted so long is beyond me. also shearer wasn't stupid-he knew that to sign for blackburn he was gauranteed first team football-something he wasn't assured of at old trafford-fall foul of fergie and you are out-no matter who you are. beckham found that out-and as much as the manu faithfull like to argue otherwise-manu have not been half as successful since becks departure.

Just a theory, but I think Shearer always knew he would eventually clash with Ferguson. Fergie is a great manager...but he is a bully, and Shearer is not a man to be easily bullied...and he knows it!

personally i think he was scared of failure and wanted the money, its the what if question, like when hansen destroys a manager on MOTD, yeah he seems to know what hes talkin about, but he only proved that as a player not a manager, shearer will always be a legend and total quality and a class bloke(apart from the elbows and cheating)but hell always have people saying what if and his legend will grow, as opposed to giggs who took the chance and proved it season after season
