Laptops can be carried and taken places (but you already knew that) but the thing that bothers me about laptops is that they cant really be upgraded like a pc
With a pc you can buy a new motherboard, graphics card or whatever you want to add and install it yourself and save a couple hundred dollars but with a laptop you cant really do that

The fact that it's portable is really the only advantage. Desktop systems can be expanded and added to rather easily. They are easier to upgrade. Desktops are better also for gaming etc. due to better graphic cards and higher end monitors. I have both. I use the laptop to travel. I use the desktop for all of my primary work.

Consider the upgrading, u may purchase a laptop with the intended specifications which u want and is at par at the time of purchase, but time to come the spec that u have might come close to being obsolete, then the laptop would be obsolete as well as to upgrade it might cost more then to purchase a new one....versus having a desktop, the components are cheaper thus allowing for continuous upgrade to a certain point.....

Portability is about the only advantage of having a laptop in my opinion.
My experience has told me that laptops aren't quite as robust in their operation as a desktop (but that is slowly changing). Also, desktop pc's are more upgradable & fixable when things go wrong.
Having said that, laptops are great for travelling with & for general naffing around in front of the TV, but for the meaty jobs, it's the desktop's turn.
Hope it helps.

Depends on what you are planning to use the computer for. If you want it for entertainment and gaming, a desktop is better because you can change parts such as Video card so that your games run smoothly. If you are just using it for just doing basic document typing and surfing the web, a laptop is best for that.

there aren't really that many, desktops are more upgradeable, powerful, and reliable
convenience is the only thing about laptops that make them better.

The advantage of laptops is that they are portable and small.
