what kind? gas elect? is it just a water heater, if its elect check the breaker, if its gas check to see if the pilot light is burning,

More than likely the heating element is burned out. you must check the breaker first and see if its popped. You will need to drain the heater and replace the element if its burned out. Not hard to do. Go to DIY on the net and find out how. If you need help ask me .

have you checked if the heater element has burnt out mine does it about every 6 month

In the USA. Buy one for $130.-350. install it. Otherwise call a plumber before your wife calls you Mr Blue Balls.
