I suspect that you have posted this question so as to create argument between Manchester United and Liverpool fans. When will your sort ever learn that everyone is entitled to support whomever they like and, in my experience, no-one ever changes allegiance although it is always interesting to see how many supporters remain after a club is relegated. I recall that when Manchester United were relegated in the mid 1970's they sill had the biggest crowds in England but when Liverpool were in the old second division in the 1950's and early 60's they had very poor crowds. These, of course grew as the club gained success but having seen them do the 'Liverpool Walk' when their side is losing at home and they can't get to an exit quick enough, I wonder sometimes at the fickleness and loyalty of these fans. Anyway remember that ALL teams are 'steeped in history' one way or another and historical events do not necessarily belong to those teams winning the mot trophies. The reason for Man U's 5 star rating is obvious. Take a look at the grounds. Old Trafford is, by far, the best stadium in England and I know, I've visited most of them. If Liverpool manage to get a comparable stadium built then they too could acheive the rating which is to do with grounds and facilities, not historical acheivements.

The main reason why Anfield is not recognised as a "5 Star" stadium is because its capacity of 45,362 is below the required 50,000. Due to its location, Anfield has not been able to expand as readily as Old Trafford, which is one of the major reasons for the planned relocation of Liverpool FC in the next few years.

The currently-tabled plans are for a new Stanley Park Stadium. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2008, and be completed in time for the start of the 2011/12 season. The ground will hold at least 70,000 fans, and will no doubt be designed to attain UEFA 5-Star criteria.

Apologies for the sensible and rational answer to your obviously trolling question. This is my first and probably last visit to the Football section, as it seems to be mostly full of prissy fanboys who give thumbs-downs to anyone who doesn't match their narrow-mined view of the world.

As one of the criteria is capacity perhaps that's why they're not in it, I know that the Emirates hasn't been surveyed by UEFA yet, but should get a five star rating.

lovermo... celtic park, and any other stadia, can only be given a specific uefa status if it actually applies for the champions league final, or as part of a bid for an international tournament. which wont happen - if scotland is to get a final, the sfa wont back it unless its at hampden (and they get all the money).

Are u kidding me,Wembly miles far the better than old trafford at england.

old trafford is the most pathetic, old, smelly, going to broke anytime, lots of rubbish, ugly stadium at england!!

Emirates is better because it's new and clean
Stamford are also clean blue colour
Anfield quiet better but maybe their new stadium will be better

To man utd fan:

Arsenal already make the new stadium and liverpool in progress and chelsea also in planning to move to new stadium and i know man utd not have sufficient money to build or renovate stadium because of the debt so please don't kept up that rubbish building!!

The reason is the capacity is less than 50000.
There are plans for a new stadium in 2008 but that won't make them good enough to beat United.
