If the way in which the hacker has compromised the computer is by cracking the password then the hacker would at some point either enter the password manually or by some automated means.

If, on the other hand, the hacker has compromised a vulnerability in the system that has nothing to do with the password in such a way that they are able to access the system then they would be possibly bypassing that step.

Good Luck

He would most likely have the password reset. Are you referring to an online hacker without physical access to the machine or someone who has physical access to the machine. If he has physical access and the right tools and time nothing will keep a good hacker out of your machine.

I use to have a program that reset WIndows XP passwords, looked just like Windows Xp too.

With the right tools I could probally get into your OS in 10 minutes after cracking open your case. I am no hacker. It is so easy.

Step 1 Check to see if there is a BIOS password.
Step 2 If no move onto Step 3 otherwise crack open case and reset BIOS.
Step 3 Put in Boot Disc.
Step 4 Reset the Password.
Step 5 Now you are into your Victims operating system.

If someone cracks a system which is logged on, they would normally be able to manipulate the logged in user account to do what they like. A good first line cracking game is that they find a way in and try logging in as administrator, this is normally left with no password after an install. I always advise setting a password for this account, even if you use the same password as your own main account, as this is a massive security hole. If you have a fully functional firewall, and a router for the internet connection, which carries NAT, and is therefore a very powerful firewall in itself, you have little to worry about. If you use wireless, always encrypt it, then you are well protected.

There are easy techniques using a UNIX based boot disc or thumb drive to completely elimnate the password protection on MS-Windows based PCs.

Basically if they have access to your computer, they'll get in easy as pie.

they can use certain infected programs like trojans to record your key strokes, so even if all you see is "*****" when you enter your password, the programs can actually tell what keys you pressed, and they will have your password.
