Hey there, so we just moved into a new town house, we had our basement re-done as well. That is where my bedroom is. Now, ever since I've started sleeping it in. It seems like the artic! I have about 3 blankets on my bed, the door is closed most of the time, but the rest of the house is warm! i believe it has something to do with the vents, we are having hte heating guy come out tomorrow, but what are somet things I can do to keep it warm?

My friend doesn't have central heating in her home, and her basement always stays toasty from a space heater. (She has one with safety features that shut it off if something touches it or if it's knocked over.) I would suggest that, as well as putting blankets over your windows and then talking to the heating guy about perhaps installing some better central heating down in the basement. However, basements do tend to lose heat, since heat rises and they're on the bottom floor. Perhaps you could invest in a dog and snuggle with it at night to keep you warm! ;) Best of luck.

Basements are always cooler because heat rises. Great in the summer not so much fun in the winter. You could get a space heater with a blower and thermostat. But if you do be very careful because they tend to light things on fire. I'd say only use it when you are in the room, maybe on a timer so it shuts off automatically. For while you asleep, an electric blanket will keep you toasty. Start at a low number, maybe 4 and work up otherwise you'll wake up way too hot.

Temporarily? Put in a space heater that will shut off automatically if it's not level. Then install a smoke detector. Make sure the windows are sealed, cover them in special window-insulating plastic from the hardware store if you can find it.

Permanently? You probably need to add insulation in the walls in addition to having the heating guy out. Basements are usually colder anyway.
