Trust me, I have nothing against emos in general, but is it all an act when they frown and say "You don't understand"? I want them to try and make me understand when they say this. I think it's all an act, just like chavs when they walk in town looking as though they have stones in their trainers to try and look cool, when really they just look disabled (sorry if offended) Most emos put their heads down and scurry away when I question them. Some will even say that I'm just looking for attention, but when I remind them that they are the ones dressing for a public reaction and attention, they shut up. All talk no action. I enjoy listening to what most emos listen to e.g. Heavy and Death Metal, but I don't run around dressed like Maralin Manson. It's just a fashion isn't it? nothing more. If the type of emo who slits their wrists, dresses in all black and is reading this thinking "but you don't understand", well make me understand please.

Beautiful - But how does cutting help anything? You don't have to cut yourself and wear all black to show that you're unhappy.

Nine - if I'm acting this way, atleast I am being myself.

It's generally teenagers who essentially live by the 'Leave me alone' mantra towards adults. 'Emos' are teenagers experimenting with their appearance and seeing who they want to be when they're older. Yes it's just a fashion and it does happen to go with the music but then there's always been seperations between groups of teenagers (think back to mods and rockers!). I too listen to 'alternative' music genres but you'd never guess it listening to me - stereotypes have to come from somewhere after all!

Oh, and to Beautiful that in itself is not a cry for help, yes some people will harm themselves and dress in that way but it's a coincidence. Reputations linked to fashion and music to do with self-harm give a bad view to outsiders (such as Marilyn Manson being blamed for the Columbine massacre). I have a dear friend who self harms and is not an 'emo' - it has nothing to do with that at all, if it was then problems would be solved a lot easier with a wardrobe change.

Why shouldn't they? Everyone puts on an act to a degree. Are you putting on an act of being a smug and insufferable do-as-I-do person by asking such a question in a patronising way? Or is it really the way you are? :o)
