Yes there are only a couple of hundred left and they are losing genetic diversification to maintain the species. This has occurred through the despicable practice of hunting for their skins to use for golf club covers!

Yes and it is on the list of top 5 endangered animals in the world. They believe that no more than 200 now live in the wild. They live in a remote area of Eastern Russia that also borders North east China. Both Chinese and Russian scientists are doing their best to keep them from going extinct
