I read the Hobbit and didn't like it one bit (this was about 5 years ago, or so.) Everyone keeps telling me how amazing it is, I'm thinking of giving it another chance. I'm older now, so maybe my perspective of it might change. Should I read it again?

It was mandatory for us to read it in grade 9. At first I didn't like it at all but as I got deeper into the book it became more interesting. Yes, I think you should definitely give the book another chance. I mean it really is a great book.

I would give it another try. I love this book -- it is the godfather of the 20th century fantasy genre. If you haven't read the Lord of the Rings trilogy yet, you must read the Hobbit first to get the whole background of the Ring and how Gandalf is involved with the Hobbits. J.R.R. Tolkien was a professor of Anglo-Saxon literature, so his books have that kind of ancient saga feel, and are not so much of a quick read as some recent fantasy books. That's why the book's been a best-seller for 70 years, while most of the fantasy books since then will fade away.

I have tried 3 times to finish this book. I waited a couple of years in between each reading, but I can't ever get more than about 2/3s read. For me, the age didn't matter, I just couldn't read it. I still want to try it again and actually finish it, but I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to. If you really didn't like it the first time, I think you should just skip it. You've read it, and if you loathed it, I don't see a 5 year age difference making it much better.

Yes, definitely, and then, if you haven't already, go straight into The Lord of the Rings. Or if you'rve already read LR in the meantime, re-reading The Hobbit will give you some additional perspective on it.

I read it when I was younger and hated it. I tried it again when I was a bit older and loved it, so give it a go. If you still don't like it, wait for the movie to come out.

Yes, I think you should. It gives a lot more background to The Lord of The Rings and is a very good book.
