The last two computers i had were hp and i got them from best buy...which i will never do again, but we just got a compaq computer as a gift and i was wondering why they are so cheap, does stuff go wrong with them frequently? are they bad computers?

They are cheaply made. I have a HP pavilion that I've had for 7 years and it still runs great... a little slow but still great. My sister has has her Compaq for I think about 2-3 years and its already done, she needs a new heatsink, fan, ram and it runs like crap and always restarts itself (fan problem). I've know others that had have Compaq's that have last at most 4 years.

I had a Compaq that worked just fine. The parts are less expensive and less upgradeable. HP makes Compaq now. I think they are ok.
