I think that word is thrown around WAY too loosely today.
Sure, there are those who go about 'courtship' in a very wrong way, but I also think there many people, (usually women), who use it in the wrong context.
Sexual attraction is Normal, guys. I've noticed even when it's subtle & not rude, some say "perv' or 'pervy'.
wtf?

Anthony- wow . Interesting. I think it's something that our society is still learning how to deal with. They're scary, but I think the dismembering thing etc is a knee jerk reaction...

Don- you have a defeatist attitude about it, I think. Yeah, many guys are like that, but not all of us. And what of the WOMEN who wear revealing sh*t in public & then get all offened when you look? Are They 'pervs"? No. Both men & women do double-takes. Only difference is, most women'll shake their heads in disgust/jealousy & the guys'll Love it!

Code- I'm well aware of the *dictionary* meaning. But in our culture, people use it in this way most of the time. Surely, you're aware of that, right?

The problem is there are far too many people who are too free with their use of words some do not even realise the etymology of words which in turn just goes to show that so many words and not just "perv" is used far too much and way out of context.

Maybe, but 'perv' is generally used in a playful/annoyed way, as opposed to 'pervert', less used as it is actually serious.
So you can't say it's thrown around too loosely really because it doesn't really mean much- although perhaps the sentiment is, in our very PC world, we can't distinguish between someone who is a bit forward or someone who is a creep.

The word "stalker" is also thrown around like so much confetti.
I think the status quo has gotten out of hand with their opinion about actual sex offenders too, talking about killing them and cutting off body parts. I worked with sex offenders and victims almost exclusively for years with the Illinois Dept. of Corrections. Society really exaggerates the impact a sex crime has on the victim.

Understandable.
Most men are considered Perv's by women, and rightly so very few of us treat women with the respect they deserve because it has come to so much game playing over the years and most guys treat them like a piece of meat. So no wonder they consider us as perv's

Ha. Well yes some women do use that word frivolously, and to some men who don't deserve the commentary. But there are plenty of men who do deserve it.

When is checking out a girl not rude? I mean, I don't mind it, unless it's some creepy guy, but a lot of people are offended by it. If someone is offended by it, they're going to speak up for themselves, you know? But I agree, a lot of people are so uptight.
