I do very often.
Glass of beer watching a sunset with my feet in the water.
Watching my kid play in the sand box.
Seeing a painting that I made some years ago and realizing it isn't half bad.
It isn't a permanent state but then what good would I be just smiling and being at bliss. I'd be bored out of my head I think.

I think it is impossible to ever attain true happiness. I think that as human beings we are always looking for some imperfection that needs correcting, some barrier meant to be overcome. It's like the story of the sculptor who wants to become something greater so he becomes a cloud. He notices that as a cloud he is controlled by the wind so he wishes to be the wind. As the wind, he realizes that he is not strong enough to push a boulder so he wishes to become the boulder. As the boulder, he hears a chiseling sound and looks down to see a sculptor sculpting a statue out of him. I think that we are very nomadic in a spiritual and philosophical sense as we hate settling down anywhere for too long, regardless of how perfect it may very well be.
Also, as human beings, we thrive on conflict and competition. If everything is at peace and all is content, we create chaos because that is how we live; which is why our world is a chaotic one.

The ironic thing is that you don't need to do ANYTHING to obtain happiness. I used to spend my time dreaming about what else i could be doing, things in far and forgeign places, but when i finally woke up i realised something huge. People are happy, because they search for happiness in the reality they live in right this moment, not in some fantasy. Pay attention to what you're doing this very moment; that's where happiness lies...and these past few months after having discovered this, have been the happiest of my life. :-)

Happiness is not a requirement for me to be pleased with how things are going. Reasonable expectations, preparations, no axe to grind, and watching the corners, will usually surface to produce the desired effect. Happiness is not an effect I try to achieve for myself, but I do try to release a measured version of it for my patients. When I do find myself happy, I go on guard. Happy indicates that all parts of the situation have not yet been notified. If happy is the liquid, then we have contentment, it would be the ice. I have done contentment, but it doesn't stop the inevitable. When things go from good to bad, being content just doesn't fill the bill. One could be mistaken for a beached flounder if contentment was all you wished to gain from a tough business. To be effective, one must be capable of ruthlessness. A successful campaign will bring the big howlers forward to extol upon their accomplishments, and disregard, all others. Me, I'm just going to learn and go. Bye.

Happiness is just a state of mind, its impossible to be happy unless you think happy. You just have to let go of everything, don't worry about losing something, don't worry about whats going to happen tomorrow or what happened in the past. Happiness is all in your mind and only you can achieve by yourself, if that be a good friend or possessions. You can find complete sense of contentment in just letting go of all your worries and live in the now with a positive attitude and don't want more things.

I believe you can't obtain it nor does it occur. It's a process, a journey of self discovery, knowing who you truelly are is the complete happiness and a sense of contentment. Only then can you know the world truelly and clearly. It's a pity many of us never get to know our trueself.

I am happy and content, but to make that complete would require too much cooperation from people who are too flawed. So, I'll always have issues to deal with in the greater context of happiness and contentment.

What you need is good luck. With good luck you can be born rich, handsome, beautiful, intelligent etc. With good luck you will be tallented and everything in your life will work out well.
For me I had lots of good luck in my life but quite a few disappointments as well but I have travelled the world, been rich for a while, have reasonably good health, family who I have loved and who have loved me.
So I aint complaining.

Yes. Materialistic goodies are not attributed to a person's happiness. Who is rich? He who is happy with is lot. It is definitely possible to reach a state of conteness if you work with your mind and the things you have.

Sadly, no. I need somebody who is able to give me as much love as I can give him and I don't think that person exists.
