The graphics are not great, but go with Castaway.

Well Animal Crossing Wild World I Think Is The Better Option... Here Is What It's About: * Players and up to three friends can hang out in the same village and interact in real time – either through wireless LAN or over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Now players can visit a friend’s village from thousands of miles away. * The touch screen simplifies item management and world navigation. Tap the touch screen to type letters, draw designs for clothing or wallpaper, drag clothing or items onto characters or just lead them around the world. * Much of the cast of the original Animal Crossing returns, including animals of all shapes and personality types: K.K. Slider, Tom Nook, Blathers, Mr. Resetti and more. There are also a number of new characters. And Here Is Info On My Sims: Improve the town to attract new characters, from Chef Gino Delicioso and DJ Candy Supergroove to arcade owner, Vic Vector and Cap'n Ginny, the town pirate. Discover what the residents want and need, so that you can help them enjoy life in your Sim's new town. Design a hot tub or jukebox from scratch; build homes and businesses from the roof to the front door. Uncover special decorations and patterns as you explore the growing town. From the furniture and objects to the buildings to the town as a whole – each of your creations is unique. In MySims, what you make... makes all the difference! * Build and customize an entire town — Your town is your own unique creation, from the design of the flower shop to the layout of a Mad Scientist's laboratory, and beyond. * Shape the community — It's your call who lives there and who moves out! Who will you befriend? Who will you ignore? * A whole world to explore — Socialize with the locals and uncover all sorts of useful and surprising treasures hidden throughout the town. * Create your own Sim — Personalize your Sims appearance from head to toe with the Wii controls. Unlock cool new clothing as you befriend the neighbors. * Design your own stuff — Decorate with your very own furniture and accessories, then customize your creations with things you can grow, harvest, or discover around town.

Pets is fun if you like animals (obviously)
You don't really have to memorize anything, just know how to check (also in the directions)
My Sims is lots of fun on the Wii (Don't know about the DS, but they're probably really similar)
