I think senior citizens should get more privileges from Govt. For example Medical care, Transport, Old age Homes etc. Can you suggest any other amenity to be provided for their welfare.

Since our government has taken so much from us I think that it should provide for us. Whether we are seniors or disabled. I have worked in 6 factories that shut down and moved overseas or south of the border. How can a person possibly get ahead like that. Also the area is depressed due to the fact that there are fewer and fewer jobs so every job in the general area pays less than it would in many other locations.

Our government certainly has no problems providing for the illegals in this country. It provides more services for them than it does for its own citizens.

I don't know about govt. providing facilities for Senior Citizens. Seems like when the govt. gets involved they install a tangled maze which must be navigated in order to access services....remember Medicare Part D.....yikes. I think that there ought to be govt. funding which would allow more families to make the choice to care for their own seniors at home. Many folks just can't quit their job in order to care for their aging relatives but would gladly do so if funding was available. More funding for services in the home to help those families that make this choice. I really don't think that more "facilities" is necessarily the answer....and I'm pretty sure that govt. run facilities is definitely NOT the answer....

I do agree with you. But first it is the duty of the children whether it is a son or daughter. Or any of the relations. We should all remember oneday we will get old like that, skins , bones and blood all getting old .And in Tamilnadu Government is helping the aged people who are living without support by giving them some amount. And above 60 the railways and many are giving concessions. Even for the beggars there is an institution to stay and work. ( I am not comparng the old with beggars.) But we children and citizens of India make the old to beg. We are the Government. And the political parties can fight for them instead of fighting for their CASTE.

I live in a cozy board and care home, privately run, open to anyone. Generally, only seniors and disabled stay here due to the higher cost of such care. My only request is that I be allowed enough out of my disability check to save, travel a little and buy presents. As it is, the cost of such care leaves me broke by mid-month, so no savings, travel or holiday gifts. Just because I'm disabled shouldn't mean my lifestyle goes down. An extra $200 per month isn't asking too much.

Our greedy and less than humane government cares a whit about seniors and their needs or anyone else for that matter, ..... if the government care at all they would have already established a national medical system similar to that in most European countries to benefit the total population not just the seniors.

It is shameful in the US has millions of children who are not covered by medical insurance and parents who cannot pay for that insurance through lack of funds ... nor is this insurance it provided by the government.

This country's health care system is a mess!!!

Frankly I wish the Government would go bother someone else. I have never considered myself a victim, I prepared for my old age, and now the government would force me into some socialized medical crap that would kill a healthy person. I would like for the Government to get the F*** out of my life, my pocket and my bedroom.

Yes, particularly in medical-subsidised or free medical care, some system of old age pension within certain financially insecure groups, transport, specifically by air when they are not in a position to undertake long train travels etc. old age homes where they get peace of mind and emotional social and cultural satisfaction. The recent law regarding caring for senior citizens may help but you cannot create affection for your parents by law!
Schemes for self employment in their own fields may be encouraged. AG Ramasubramanian.

I am both a senior and disabled. I live in my own very nice 2 B/R, 2 bath ground floor apartment, have my own transportation with less than 50,000 miles on it, plus an old work horse truck that more than gets the job done, a mustang convertible and a like brand new 66 Buick Electra 225. My medical is covered 100% including dental, exept about $16.00 every 3 months that I pay for about $600.00/MO. worth of meds. All that plus enough left over to pay my other bills and eat, all on less than $700.00/mo. I live very comfortable thank you. What more could I possibly ask for or expect?

I don't know what the government should do, or shouldn't do except try to make us energy independent, encourgage cottage industries, curtail the trade deficit, stop deficit spending and mind its own business.

Those things will require a lot of sacrifices by everyone, including the elderly.

Rather than increase things for the elderly a more effective approach would to be to decrease government salaries, government vehicle usage, government buildings and all the concomittant program spending except bare bones.

No, I think we need to depend on our selves for what we need and want..We saved for retirement and now enjoy the fruits of our labor. We struggled @ times to build this nest egg, but looking back it was worth it..we both retired 9 years ago, the only perk we get is our health plan is completely paid for, no co pay, no deductible, nothing.. I worked 15-20 hours a week for 33 years as a nurse, in order to get that benefit.
