They don't. I think maybe you are just seeing people who are happy and interpret it as them thinking they are superior.

i dont think i am better than a single person, but i do feel more like two people than one. in some ways this is better than a single person's situation. also i get 'love sex', which is impossible for a single person to get, not to mention about 99999999999x better. i have a person that i know i could never get bored of.
also SOME single people are single cos they don't respect people. they think that people of the opposite sex are sex toys, only worthy of a one night stand. many single people long to be in as relationship, and go out looking for a way to make that happen. i dont see as many couples doing the opposite, it seems that being in a partnership is more enjoyable.
i know what you mean though about some couples thinking that they are intrinsically better as a person, purely because they are in a relationship. i dont know why that is, but lets agree that there are good and bad, songle and partnered people in random occurance.
another thing that occured to me is that people in relarionships are happy, they try to give out their happiness to others. sometimes this comes across as condescending or patronising, making it seem like they think they are better.

because we live in a movie called if u dont have an alledgedly called "significant other" ur a looser its a phase the world is going into one day theyll snap out of it..the word crush exists no more, nor dating and trying it out for us to find if we r to LOVE each other forever...its now jump from bed to bed living in the moments of the so called "love" which is the sweety sweety dating proces...single isnt acceptable..waiting for the so called "True love" and its meaning is completely
not the objective..makes me feel deeply sad realy. All this makes the couples feel on the safe "cool" side..blame the media -_-

That's not true. It's not that we think we're better. It's that we are personally so happy that we have found our love.
I use to get that sense from people when I was single. Now that I am with my love I see their feeling. It is nothing personal. They just hope that one day you will feel how good love is, the way they are feeling it.
Happy New Year!

A true couple that are comfortable with each other in love would never say they are better than anyone but simply express that it is better to not be alone.

Because they think they are not lusting for that next piece of tail that is the presumed preoccupation of all single people !
This makes them emminantely more settled, less wild-eyed, impetuous, promiscuous, and therefore far more respectable !
YEAH RIGHT !

They don't really think they are better, they just act that way because they are jealous of the single lifestyle.

I don't feel that they feel they are better. I just think that they appear happy to be part of a couple.
