I add people as a contact usually after they become a fan of mine. I have 233 fans, and just under 200 contacts after I purged some last night (people with suspended/deleted accounts), since you can't add more than 200.

This can only be done if someone picks you as a contact. You can't be someone's fan until then.

i have 76 fans and 34 contacts. but, it's important to note some of my fans have been suspended. if i like their question and/or answer their questions, i will add them to my contacts. but, i'm not here for a popularity contest. no thanks.

but they can put you as their contact ...
and they in turn become your fan...
