Yea they are all the books that have the cheesy bodice ripping characters on the front but still I love them!
Although they do have a lot of somewhat heavy sex scenes and if you don't like them I would recommend Georgette Heyer who's a lot cleaner actually I would recommend her no matter what!

There is this new series by Lauren Willig coming out. The first three are The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, The Masque of the Black Tulip, and The Deception of the Emerald Ring. A fourth is due out in Spring 2008, but I really love these so far. They're historical romances, but they have some mystery too because they involve spies.

All of the suggestions above are great. Here's a few more:
Mary Jo Putney-anything, but maybe start with Thunder and Roses (Fallen Angels series)
Jo Beverley-anything, but start with My Lady Notorious in the Malloren series
Mary Balogh-anything
Eloisa James (Desperate Duchesses, An Affair Before Christmas)
I really think you'll like these authors. They are really good writers, and the characters and plots are great.
If you like things pretty steamy, try Bertrice Small (Skye O'Malley, Rosamund)

You would love books by Anya Seton, I think they may all be out of print but you can get them cheap on ABE or Ebay.
They are all historical romances many of them set in the 1500 - 1800's.........Some of my favors are Devil Water which was set in the 1600, The Winthrop Women and Dragonwyck.

If you've read Pride And Prejudice, I recommend Mr. Darcy Takes A Wife by Linda Berdoll. It's a sequel to P&P and things really heat up between Darcy and Elizabeth.

Books by Jane Austin and Anthony Trollope. Also, THE FAR PAVILIONS by MM Kaye is great, but you'd probably have to go to the library for it.
