This question reminded me of my grandmother who thought every problem, no matter what it was, could be remedied with food.
This rule applied to everyone and when you went to her house it was expected that you would eat. Whatever the problem, no matter how minor or major it might be, most assuredly would be solved with a big meal. Somehow, I think, in her mind, it was the ultimate solution, and of course, it didn't hurt any and most of the time you felt pretty good afterwards.
Hugs were just a bonus..
So, just maybe, she was on to something there. LOL

They're probably just trying to make sure you know they love you!
For some people hugs and kisses don't come as easy as it does for others.
Maybe it's something they never had when they were young, so they just don't know how or are just uncomfortable with it!
That doesn't mean that they don't love you or anyone else though, they just have a hard time with affection, so they show you they love you with food!

Most mammals have an instinctive compulsion to feed and nurture their children. The difference is that most mammals stop taking care of their children when they get older, humans don't, so they always feel the need to take care of their children, even after they have grown up.

when they are little they get hugs, then when they are teenagers, kids dont wnt hugs anymore, so parents try to make sure they are okay with food.
its okay for adult kids to go up to the folks and say "no food thanks, can i just have a hug?"
