wax will protect it, get yourself a orbital buffer and go at it, it will probably take a lot of that dead paint off and make it shine a lot more.

Wax by itself will just protect the paint from more oxidation. If you want to correct the problem you will need to compound the paint before waxing. A detailer can buff the paint and make it shine like new. If you don't want to invest that kind of money in a older car then you may do it yourself. Get a 3 step paint revival kit from either Mother's or Meguiar's. It's alot of work but you will be impressed by the results. The kits include a compound, polish and a wax. Investing in an orbital buffer may be a wise choice also. A machine will do a much better job than you can by hand and you won't be as tired.

use regular wax the spray on wax is only for detailing jobs so it will only last a couple of days. I have Been using Turtle wax ICE and I have had very good results with it, the shine and water beading quality's last for months I have never had results like this with any other product. My car is a 93 Grand Prix with 167,000 miles and the car looks new although the paint on my car was never dull to Begin with but using turtle wax ICE has maid the gloss deeper. You could also try to use the Liquid clay polish it is supposed to bring back the shine with out removing to much clear coat. I would bring the car to a body shop or a supply house to get more professional advice just to make shore.

Wax will protect it. That is the purpose of the was. The shine is an added benefit. Putting some on those rust spots will slow, but not stop, the advance of rust by denying oxygen.

Wax will make the rust worse. The chemicals in the wax will trigger a reaction with the rust, causing it to rust more and the wax will not be noticeable.

It should help slow down the oxidation and protect some from sand and salt on the roads but if you really like your car get it painted, shouldn't she grow old gracefully?!

Use new
ICE spray-on from Turtle Wax.
Leaves no white residue in cracks.
They also make ICE in paste form.
Best to start with ICE clay bar to restore old paint before waxing.

any wax is better than none, but perhaps paste is better as you can rub it into the aged surface before buffing it to a shine. at least that's what my guy friend say.
