There are male faeries
Leprechauns, dwarves, goblins, pixies can be male.
It's just that the female faeries are more beautiful, and more like the stereotypical image that most people have of fairies. There are many different kinds of faeries, but all the magical little people come from the land of Faerie.
Also in art work female fairies are more often depicted, because people like to draw/look at pictures of naked chicks with wings.

Goethe's poem Erlkonig is about the king of the elves who appears to a dying boy. He is a malicious being, not a cute fairy like Tinkerbell. Check Wikipedia and Goggle Erlkonig for more information.

I do not know how fairies reproduce... They are not many males out there... Except for Thumbelina and that story with Barbie Fairytopia...

if you WANT to beleive me, here goes: male fairies are solitary and live like females but are very solitary! to see one is a RARE sight!
