I wrote a DVD review of Michael Moore's SICKO and would appreciate any feedback on the writing. I put it here because I think politically minded people would take more interest.

While I hate Michael Moore, I loved your review - because it was VERY well-written and VERY well-rounded.

Sometimes people (ahem, the first answer up there) don't read what you've written and only seek to disparage others - and they only answer to get the measly two points.

Please don't listen to idiots like that guy - you are an excellent writer (and you've got a star to prove it).

A good review with an accurate portrayal of the movie.

P.S. -I hope you realize you are going to have to ignore all the rampant hate posts that are sure to follow any mention of Michael Moore.

VERY decent review, I saw the movie. I'm in the UK now, one of my roommates is a doctor, they have such a different down to earth attitude about it here than in the US. In the US, doctors are considered diety or something so the AMA gets politicians like that goddamn mouthpiece Guiliani or whatever his name is to speak against the horrors of socialized medicine. The only whore is Guiliani himself.

your review is GREAT and SPOT on, regardless of which side of the fence you are on healthcare NEEDS to be a primary issue in this next election, for the future of all of us as we age and our CHILDREN!!!!! EVEN those lucky enough to have insurance are getting denied claims based on experimental treatments, treatments deemed medically unnecessary people are DYING as a RESULT!!!! THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE in this country, BEFORE we worry another DAY about the health crisis in AFRICA we need to concentrate on our own crisis HERE!!! RIGHT HERE!!! I wish people would get empowered by this film, the government and the insurance lobbyists are tying our hands behind our backs and people are suffering needlessly in this great country of ours, we need to take back our government and cut these programs to immigrants and other countries and take care of our own!!!

This is NOT about Michael Moore, and when I see rude posts that are not on topic I am gonna report them, so get ready peeps....

John, I think you are a good writer, and I enjoyed your review. I would like to point out that it does not come across as a movie review though. I'd see it more as a political commentary. If it were in a newspaper, I'd expect to see it on the editorial or "op-ed" page, rather than in film criticism.

What you have done, mostly, is provide a good summary of the movie's most relevant and important points, expressed your agreement, and issued a call to action. Nothing wrong with doing that, if that was your purpose.

I don't have the article in front of me, but as I recall, there is a paragraph that does focus on Moore's film-making techniques. You say that he exaggerates, but that this is a strength, rather than a weakness. I think it might be good for you to clarify what you mean by that.

I've seen the movie 2 1/2 times now, and I absolutely loved it. Some of the scenes are done so beautifully that I can't get them out of my mind. Moore makes his point very well indeed. I don't think the film will "convince" anybody who is adamently opposed to universal health care, but it inspires the rest of us.

I do believe that the film had a few weaknesses. In particular, Moore interviews a couple of individuals, to show that Europeans are not drowning in taxes, and that their physicians are not poorly paid. These interviews slow down the pace of a film which is already rather long, and they don't actually prove anything.

I thought the last section of the film was brilliant. But Moore starts with three boat loads of people and arrives at his destination with only four people. It would have been good if he had at least explained what happened to the orthers. Or did I miss something?

Again, I enjoyed your review, which sounded very professional, and I agree with all your conclusions. Thanks for writing it, and sharing it with us.
