I mean when it happens all the time. Not physical usually, but constant verbal.

No absolutely not!! If you know you are a mean drunk and you continue to drink then it becomes a choice not to care. I say leave him/her and move on.

Simply stated, a male cannot call himself a man if he abuses a woman. NO MATTER THE CAUSE. And being drunk is an EXCUSE, not a REASON. An EXCUSE is used by someone trying to rationalize what they do so THEY feel better about it. And as long as you allow him to continue, you are enabling him. Draw the line in the sand, dear lady, and let him know that you WILL leave if he gets drunk JUST ONCE MORE. If it does happen, LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. If he has a habit of passing out when he's drunk, leave then. He'll at first believe you're playing or not really leaving, but he'll understand in a few days. And, if you're thinking of going back, DON'T.

No being drunk is not an excuse for any type of abusive behavior. It shows a lack of respect for not only himself but also you. Also one day it may go from being drunk to not being drunk and at that time what is the excuse? Women and even men don't have to put up with it and even though does not do any good to say anything to the individual when drunk, keep mental notes and if necessary record what is said and when that person is sober, tell them, "this is what you sound like drunk". If that does not give them a big hint, than if that does not work, strongly consider leaving that person. Best of luck. And remember no person should be subject of any type of abuse

Being drunk is no excuse for anything. If a person is abusive they will be so even when they are not drinking and it will make them worse when they are.

Being drunk is a jerks way of being a jerk ALL the time... an EXCUSE. And they are FULL of them.

No and there is NO excuse. In time they will not need to be drunk to continue the abuse. If you allow this to happen, then it will become an "acceptable" standard to this person.

You deserve better, get out and move on to someone who will treat you with respect.

NO! There is no excuse. My professor says that a drunk mind does what a sober mind doesnt have the balls to do. Take a minute to reevaluate and get some help if necessary

No drinking only lets the beast out , but the beast is so hard to controle that one must drink to keep from feeling the beast one's self , thus the drinker is always getting his drunk on . to stop feeling the beast him or herself ,, self medicating , is so uncertain there is no set recipee so it flows from one extreem to the other , hard to know where you are to stand , one minuet your in the way the next your never close enough , self medicating is just too un certain , find the courage ,,, if you love them to leave before you don't love them anymore , you can be of more help if they need you and you need then then once they need you but you don't need them ,, help them by leaving just long enough for them to get a grip ,, but remember the beast will go after them next , The beast is what your fighting not the man or woman , the beast needs to be delt with

No, of course not. But typically people drink to numb themselves to their true emotions. And they think that it makes dealing with life easier.

My husband has a drinking problem, and he can't communicate with me on an emotional level unless he's been drinking. He says it makes it easier to deal with the upcoming rejection.

Sad.

As to the other person that posted that they don't change; I hate that. Because I like to hold out hope that he can. But he won't acknowledge he has a problem in the first place. Sad.

Absolutely not! Any type of abuse is unacceptable. And if they uses excuses for their behavior then they are in denial. Don't accept this behavior at all.
