I love hearing about End-Of-Days theories!

Did you know that Hollywood star Tom Cruise is planning to build a bunker at his Colorado home to protect his family in the event of an intergalactic alien attack? He is a dedicated follower of Scientology and is reportedly fearful that deposed galactic ruler 'Xenu' is plotting an evil revenge attack on Earth.

The Mayan calender ends in 2012 and is interpreted by many as the end of the world.

In 2012, there is an apparent galatic alignment taking place, where all the planets in our solar system end up in one straight line. This is supposedly going to cause upset to all our planets.

The theories I am more likely to believe are the ones where there is some form of historical evidence to back it up.

Read up on the ancient Sumerian text and the belief that the planet Nibiru will pass by the Earth causing all sorts of havoc. It goes hand-in-hand with many religious beliefs, historic events, prophecies and science. A guy called Zecharia Sitchin revealed the facts behind the ground breaking (excuse the pun!) ancient text and in my opinion it is really interesting albeit scary stuff.

Check the following book out - It is a real eye-opener, a must-have if you are truly interested to learn more:

I'm not a gambling man but my money is on Sitchin's theories.

I don't think the world is going to end but I do reckon we will soon be in for some huge disasters ahead because of Nibiru. Expect floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and polar shifts. The Earth will stop rotating for a while too. Once all of the disasters have ended, the Earth will have time to heal itself from all the damage we have done to the environment.

Only a few will survive and they will be controlled by one government (New World Order) who are currently protecting themselves just like Tom Cruise is!

The MTV generation will mock most of this stuff and in another way I don't blame them. The governments of today will encourage/promote this type of mocking and even the "can't be bothered" attitude in our societies of today because if they didn't, then there would be major panic and chaos on a global scale.

Conspiracies and BS all of this may be....I say read for yourself and make your own mind up.

Hope not I was looking forward to the London Olympics!

No absolutely not! The world as we know it will definately end as our society grows, evolves and the developing world continues to flex its muscles but the planet will go on. The Earth is 4.56Ga and has survived countless catastrophic events, always bouncing back and flourishing with new life, whether we as a species will survive or evolve ourselves into extiction rather than survival is a different matter, although I suspect like cockroaches a few of us will survive and find a way to cause more havoc!

Would just like to add in response to the flipping of the magnetic fields theory, that whilst it's true that the poles exchange and that we're overdue a reversal (to the best of our knowledge) the field fluctuates all the time and it's unlikely (there's no evidence at all) that it collapses completely for up to a hundred years otherwise all surface life would be wiped out and there is no evidence of this in the fossil record, in fact if it had ever happened we wouldn't be here as evolution doesn't happen fast enough for all major life forms to have been wiped out less than a million years ago. Like as not even as the field shifts position it retains enough strength to repell the solar winds.

Time was invention to stop everything happening at once - therefore the world is already ended and begun - the so called apocalypse is happening to people as we speak - the tsunami of December 26th 2004 ended the world for thousands in the far east, Sumatra, Sri - Lanka and India. 2012 is a totally abstract number and has no meaning just like 1984, Hally's Comet 1986 and the 2000 Millennium, there is always another date for the end of the world.

I take it you are referring to the Mayan calendar. People have suggested the world is coming to an end on 21st December 2012. I can't remember all the reasons for this date being put forward but you can research it for yourself. It is suggested also that it is not the physical end of the world but the ushering in of a "new age".
Personally I don't put any store by it but you can make of it what you will.

I watched a tv programme that reckoned we would die in 2006 by a nuclear war, and we're still here!

I actually read that a good thing was predicted for 2012, about a higher level of brain function, a large number of people will be develop the ability to communicate telepathically. Now that would be kinda cool!?

7 reasons , the world will end in 2012

1. Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it's likely they've got the end of the world right as well.

2. Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery: our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it'll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012

3. Scientists in Europe have been building the world's largest particle accelerator. Basically its a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it's properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They're predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball

4. If having scientists warning us about the end of the world isn't bad enough, religious folks are getting in on the act aswell. Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good an Evil, has been set down for 2012. The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, says the same thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings.

5. Yellowstone National Park in the United States is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. The reason for this is simple - it's sitting on top of the world's biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we're many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang.

6. This one's case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they're claiming their calculations prove, that we're all going to die, very soon - while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs.

7. We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that sheilds us from most of the sun's radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so - and right now we're about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.

I HAV NO OPINION WELL I NEITHER BELIEVES IT NOR DENIES IT. I SIMPLY DON'T KNOW. IF IT'S THE END WE CAN ALL DIE TOGETHER AS ONE.

I don't know why you think the world is going to end in 2012. I'm 99.9% sure that the world is not going to end in 2012. If you think it's global warming, there is none. Every some hundred years the weather changes. It gets cold, then it gets hot. Some people think it is the air polution, and they don't know what they are talking about. If you ask any wheatherman they would say that the weather changes. And i bet in 50 years they will be saying a ice age is coming.

I am nearly 60 and have come across numerous instances of the world supposed to be coming to an end. The nearest we got to it, I believe was during the Cuba Missile crisis.

I will be very annoyed if the world does end as I will be just about to start my retirement.

it won't end but it will change
The mayans made a calendar which stopped on 21st december 2012. Maybe they got bored of doing it and stopped or maybe they truly believed that something will happen then. Some people think it means that the world as we know it will end but not life itself. Maybe we'll all become telepathic or maybe climate will change dramatically, or maybe jack sh1t will happen, who knows.
