It is not considered such in all ages and all societies.

The consideration of suicide as an "awful and pitiful thing" is a modern Western view and it is the result of Western society being a materialistic mindset where this existence is all that matters.

Because everyone's life is valuable to those who love them. If someone feels that suicide is their only option, there must be reasons why they feel unloved and unwanted. After all, who is the best judge of when a life becomes unbearable? Would you trade your circumstances with a suicidal person for a day, a week, a month, a year? If not, then maybe their IS something to the idea that their life is not worth living.

Its really just an opinion, most people think murder is awful, but then there are people who think murder is a great way to take care of their problems. Suicide is the same way, some people think its awful as others think that it will solve their problems. But i believe that it is looked down upon is because it involves taking a life which no one wants to see. It really comes down to is suicide really that bad? Suicide is just a murdering of yourself and I believe you should have the right to do so, but there is very little reason why you should. No problem is too big that you have to take your own life.

Maybe because victims of suicide (like me) who were left by their family in terrible situations are unhappy. Suicide messes up other people--financially, psychologically, everything. It's selfish and cruel, and most of all, sad. Why would my father decide leave me that way when I was eleven? Why did it drive my mother crazy? Is that not awful and pitiful?

Because live is so simple and beautifull that you must be stupid to commit such thing. I mean, there are so many things you can enjoy in life,so many open doors that people ignore every day..Suicide just states: I'm not worth of this world cause i'm too blind to see all this beauty.

Suicide is a way of giving away a tremendous opportunity that is your right by birth. We are all here on this planet for a reason, with the ability of freewill to make choices and co-create our lifes. For the first while, we are raised in environments and given ideas that are not anything to do with who we are. This influence, by family, culture and society, usually sets us up for the struggle that we all must go through in order to find out who we are and what we want to do.
It is like a caterpiller in a cacoon that doesn't get to experience it's own beauty and freedom. In this, the person who decides to give up, has not seen that they are absolutely perfect in the truth of their spirit, and they do not see that they are meant to struggle, to experience and then to break free and fly. We all have this inate potential to experince life fully, and to stop it short, willingly, is to NOT recongize that you are a unique individual with a great gift to give the world.

Self preservation is an instinct. We are driven to survive. Everyone has periods of time in their lives when they are beaten down. Everyone learns that even that doesn't last.
We hope for the brighter day. Suicides have no hope. Not only do they point out that we are mortal but also that we can be our own executioners. There but for ____ (fill in the blank), go us all. That is awesome, terrifying, unnerving and saddening.
C. :)!!

I feel because life is so fragile and can be taken away from you so easily, how could you use your own hand.

Many feel only God can take you when it is your time.
I feel that many problems that lead to suicide can be prevented if the person could see beyond the present, but sometimes that is just not possible.

I don't think you are punished for taking your life. The act of suicide is a sad and desperate act.

Because it is selfish. The one that kills himself is selfish because he or she doesnt think of what he or she is leaving behind (a son, a family? people that love him or her?) It is also a way to run away from hard situations, instead of confronting them and fight for life.

Edit: Some people fall into a very strong depression. Depression is something you cannot avoid (but you can get better though).
