Because they think they're the centre of the world and hate to be wrong.

The truth is, the US is $9 trillion in debt, (that's $900 billion billion), a third of which is owed to the Chinese, and the Americans need oil for their world killing cars, which they can't afford, so they invade, sorry, liberate other countries and take 98% of their oil, in return for food, all the while expecting every other nation to eliminate their 3rd world debt, and to help cure hunger.

All we need is 1 EMP bomb, without QVC and internet adult-orientated material, the US will riot, and end up destroying itself, either that, or at the hands of the Russian, Chinese, or British Empires by the end of the century anyhow.

As a retired U.S. Army soldier let me see if I can enlighten you a little. As is the case any other country, the silent majority are never heard. You might think that being ex-military I would be pro-war. I'm not, and neither are most Americans. Anyone that has fought in a war, and still has a sense of human life being valuable, does not favor war. While Americans are sleeping, special interests and profit hungry corporations are running the country. These groups find war profitable and believe that they can maintain the sole super power status of the U.S. for the near future through force. My fellow Americans will eventually wake up and realize that the way we're treating our neighbors is exactly the way we accused the Soviet Union of being during the cold war.

As for the hate you mentioned. It's not only America. The whole world seems to be split into two vocal groups, one for, and one against. It doesn't matter the topic. They cannot seem to understand that positive change comes from tolerance and compromise. Through the ability to step back and see something from someone else's point of view and to believe in the concept that freedom for all means that you understand that some things that are important to others may be against your personla beliefs and values. Who wants to live in a world where we are all alike?

When the "Silent Majority" in America gets their heads out of the sand change will finally come, and it will be for the better, both for Americans and the world.

If the road to stability, security and prosperity, domestic and or foreign, leads through militarily defeating a dictator, rogue nation or terrorist organization, or all three, America is one of the few nations of the world with the moral fortitude, ability and will to do so. As ugly as war is, not fighting for what is right is much more distasteful to Americans.

I think many Americans (myself included) are not so much "pro war" than pro national defense and in favor or protecting our freedoms and way of life. Believe me, most of us would probably rather see international problems solved by diplomacy than see lifes lost in bloody, senseless wars.

In some cases that's possible, but when you're dealing with terrorists groups like Al Queda, Hamas or other Islamist extremist groups who believe it's "my way or the highway," diplomacy seldom works. Until these radicals are militarily defeated to the point they're forced to negotiate, compromise is not part of their vocabulary.

Also peace on earth and the value are not high priorities to radical Muslims. Forcing people to convert to their religion and the ultimate goal of dominating the world are much much more important. We in the Western world treasure peace and tranquility so we don't always understand why these values aren't cherished by everyone else.

I have had some serious reservations about the war in Iraq, but, as a whole, I think it's crucial to pursue some sort of dedicated, united effort against terrorism. I don't hate those who are against this war or any other war. Some of them have good points worth seriously considering. What irks me are the ones whose primary agenda is not really "peace" but an anti- American one. Too many so called proponents of peace are actually using the anti war movement to promote their communist, socialistic, or anarchist views.

I would surmise because the generation has NOT been through one. I think (but haven't researched it) that those who have served in an un-winnable war (Korea, Vietnam to name two) are opposed.
Iraq, and most of the mid-east, is made up of tribal peoples who are and will always feud for territory. It is an illusion that they want to be like us. And why should they.

cause of the media, using propaganda to get the public's support. that's basicaly how hitler got germany's support which got him elected and you already know how that turned out... the media just says, oh go out there and fight for your country to protect it. but your not really fighting for your country, to protect it. your just fighting because the media and government says its the right thing to do but its not. the media unfortunately has a lot of power cause people usually believes what they say. thats y u have to be aware of what the media is telling u. and u can't always believe what u see on tv and in the media. cause they use propaganda a lot more time than what u'd expect... bush was just using the excuse that they were going to iraq for humanitarian reasons. but they're really theyre cause he wants a peice of iraq's cake, which happens to be oil...he's there for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, not for the suffering, crying, and the dying.

"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is lie and tell them that they are being attacked. Denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

- Hermann Goering at the Nuremberg Trials, 1945.

'Nuff said.
