Don't tell me you don't have the patience to wait for the computer to boot up.

If the PC is a server model nothing wrong, if it's meant for home use i.e. a ordinary PC, the hardware life would surely decrease.
If the temperature of the area you stay is low, then OK, leave it ON.

In what situation?
If u want to save electricity u can shut it down
Normally if u want to do something else and come back or take a small break u can leave it in sleep, hibernate or something
The computer just wont blast off even if u leave it on and idle for a whole week
i would suggest hibernate or sleep

depends upon the circumstances. if you are not gonna use it for a long time, turn it off. otherwise leave it on but with the screen off to prevent "burn in" of images etc. I would recommend stand-by as well. Its like turning your computer off without turning your computer off

By all means, if you're not going to use it, turn it off.
Running it constantly not only wears out things like the fans, it also wastes power.
Hibernating, putting it to sleep, could be an alternative although even that does uses power.

computer hardware will do more damage starting up from cold. thats why servers are always on.

You are safer to leave a computer on. but the cost of power can grow if you have alot

If you aren't going to be using it for a while, I'd turn it off; however if you know that you're going to be getting right back on it soon, I'd leave it running.
